Ombuds Office welcomes the Global Ombuds
The Ombuds Office for SOS Children’s Villages International has announced the appointment of Pierre Cazenave as Global Ombuds.
He will work from Vienna and Budapest, where he lives with his family, starting 2 May 2024.
Pierre brings to the role expertise in child protection, child rights, child participation, and refugee law. He has substantial international work experience, including for Terre des hommes as a regional programme manager. Pierre has two Masters in Law. He is a native speaker of Spanish and French, fluent in English, and conversant in other languages.
The selection process included interviews with children and young people.
Pierre will report to the Ombuds Board. Further information about the Ombuds Office structure is on our website.
In his role as Global Ombuds, Pierre will ensure that the Ombuds Office works collaboratively with SOS Children’s Villages at all levels while maintaining independence, in support of strengthening child safeguarding and a safe environment for all. Responsibilities include:

Leadership and management of the Ombuds Office

Promoting meaningful child participation

Working closely with Regional Ombuds to resolve inquiries related to children and young people in SOS Children’s Villages programs that are beyond the scope of National Ombuds.
He will identify and communicate systemic themes and gaps in safeguarding, as well as opportunities for improvement, and support SOS Children’s Villages to take action. He will build the capacity of the Ombuds Office so that it functions effectively as part of a robust safeguarding system for the federation.
